Access database components can be accessed only when the database gets fully mounted. There is a possibility that the Access database does not get mounted completely and successfully due to Access database corruption. In such circumstances, if there is no database backup the user needs to use third party application - Access Recovery Software. For example, a user tries to mount the Access database in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server or Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. Laptop screen went black. Picture on external screen has pixelation.
by admin on Feb.17, 2009, under IT News
I have a Tosiba Satellite P100 17 inch laptop. It has Nvidia Geforce 7600 Go Video card. The LCD screen went black few days ago, but the laptop is in working condition, LED lights are working. Was able to connect to external monitor via VGA port, got the picture, but it’s somewhat corrupted, picture has a lot of pixelation. This is also repeated with another external LCD. I disassembled it to check connections, the video cable connection seems to be tight… What seems to be the problem? If this is screen , why I have pixelation on external monitor? Is it a video card? Is it a motherboard?
That description sounds like a problem with the video card and I’ve seen this happening with Satellite P100 laptops before. Most likely you will be able to fix the laptop if you replace the video card, which is located underneath the motherboard. You can follow this disassembly instructions for a Satellite P105, which is a similar laptop except it has a video card integrated into the motherboard. In your laptop the video card should be a discrete module which you can separate from the motherboard.
If you can give me the laptop model number from the sticker on the bottom, I can look up the video card part number for you so you can google it and find a replacement.
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
by admin on Feb.17, 2009, under IT News
My computer won’t start and it says - the Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windows\system32\config\system”. I have a ThinkPad T60 computer and I am currently studying abroad in a different country away from home and I do not have the original CD for Windows…Is there any way I can get this fixed or solve it without the CD? Please write back if you can, it’d be much appreciated!
Usually on ThinkPad laptops you can repair or reinstall window from the hidden recovery partition. Turn on the laptop and press on the blue Access IBM button to activate the recovery wizard. Press on the button as soon as Lenovo (IBM) logo appears on the screen. You’ll see a few different options in the recovery menu. First, try repairing Windows. If it doesn’t help, reimage the hard drive back to factory defaults.
The screen goes black or dim when I touch the lid or move the laptop
by admin on Feb.17, 2009, under IT News
When I touch the lid or move the laptop a certain way, the screen goes black or the contrast is really dim. The buttons on the laptop are still lit but everything else seems shut off.. but not really. I try everything I can to turn it on but it wont turn on. So I have to force it to shut down. I don’t know why it would do that.
I think there could be a problem with the screen cable. This cable connects the laptop LCD screen to the motherboard and apparently the cable is bad and has to be replaced. That would be my guess.
Here’s what you can do in order to narrow down the problem. Test your laptop with an external monitor attached to the VGA port. Set your laptop to output video to both, the internal screen and external monitor. Now touch the lid or move the laptop. If the laptop screen goes black or dim, but you still can use the laptop with the external monitor, most likely it’s related to the screen cable. Apparently it has damaged wires inside the harness and there is a short inside the harness when you move the lid. If that’s the case, the screen cable has to be replaced.
Screen on my Toshiba Satellite A25 falls down and will not stay up
by admin on Feb.17, 2009, under IT News
Toshiba Satellite A25-S207 laptop clutch in not holding up the screen. Screen falls down and will not stay up.
What parts do I need? Is it an easy fix?
That is a common problem with Toshiba Satellite A20/A25 laptops. Most likely the screen will not stay up because one or both display hinges are broken. In order to fix the problem, you’ll have to replace display hinges.
Replacing hinges is not an easy fix because you’ll have to disassemble the whole laptop. You’ll have to take apart both, the laptop base and display panel assembly as it shown in this repair guide.
If you have no laptop repair experience, I wouldn’t attempt this repair. It’s not an easy repair even for experienced technicians.
How to know if my laptop has wireless internet?
by admin on Feb.17, 2009, under IT News
I need to know if my laptop has wireless internet. It is a Toshiba and it looks kind of old. So I don’t really know how to tell.
Take a closer look at your laptop. Do you have a wireless switch somewhere on the side? Does the LED by the switch light up if you turn on the switch? If it does, you have an internal wireless card installed.
Here’s another way. Take a look at the device manager. All laptop hardware components are listed in the device manager.
Right click on My Computer, click on Manage, click on Device Manager. Click on the “+” sign by the Network adapters. Do you see an entry related to the wireless card adapter in there?
If you do, you have an internal wireless card installed.
A vertical row of pixels appeared on the LCD screen. Cable, inverter or LCD?
by admin on Feb.17, 2009, under IT News
Couple of months ago, a vertical row of pixels was shown in yellow, and 2 weeks ago, a 4cm row of pixels on the right side of the LCD was blurred and after couple of days, it went completely white. Same this is now happening in the left side, and i’m afraid it will shortly turn into white as well.
Can this be caused by the graphic cable or by the inverter, or is this the LCD dying on me…?
By the way, it’s a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6084.
This problem is not caused by the inverter board because you still can see the image on the screen. The backlight still works, so it’s not the inverter.
Also, it’s not related to the LCD cable. A bad faulty LCD cable affects image on the whole LCD screen, not just on a part of the LCD. I don’t think that your problem is related to the cable.
Apparently your LCD screen is dying and you’ll have to replace it soon.
Just in case, test the laptop with an external monitor attached to the VGA port on the side of the laptop. Most likely the external video will be fine. Let me know if the external video output also has vertical rows of pixels. Because if it does (I really doubt it), there could be a problem with the video card.
LCD screen recently went dark
by admin on Feb.17, 2009, under IT News
I have a Dell D810 laptop and the LCD recently went dark. When starting from cold, the boot screen comes up just fine (normal brightness) but as soon as it gets to the logon screen it goes dark. When taking it out of sleep mode the screen will also light up normally but only for about 2-5 seconds then it goes dark again.
You can see the desktop icons if you try the flashlight trick so I figure its either the inverter or backlight.
Before I order an inverter I thought I’d throw in what seems to be unusual with my problem:
If I keep the brightness at halfway or less I can get the screen to stay lit all the time. If I raise it above half, that triggers the screen to go dark. I adjusted my power settings to only have the LCD brightness at half all the time. Also my power settings are set up to have the LCD screen turn off when the lid is closed, and if I close the lid (if the screen has gone dark and then reopen the lid the screen lights up again as normal, but only as long as I make sure to keep the brightness down.
BTW- I did notice my screen having a pinkish tone when it would wake up, before the screen actually started going dark. It still has that pinkish hue when starting up from cold and it seems that the pinkish tone goes away after it has been on for awhile (20-30min?).
Does this point more towards an inverter or backlight?

This description fits both, bad inverter board and bad backlight lamp.

Again, could be either bad inverter or backlight lamp but I lean more towards the lamp.

This time your description sounds more like backlight lamp related issue.

For some reason, I think you have a faulty backlight lamp. That would be my guess.
I have a dead diagonal row of keys on my laptop keyboard
by admin on Feb.17, 2009, under IT News
I have a dead diagonal row of keys on my Toshiba Tecra laptop keyboard. It is the 4 r f v keys.
I just installed a new keyboard and the problem persists to my dismay!!
So if it isn’t the keyboard what can I do to fix it?
First of all, try cleaning pins inside the keyboard connector on the system board. Spray pins with a connector cleaning solution. You can find this solution in a local electronic store. It’s possible that some pins oxidized and the keyboard cable is not making good connection with the system board. I use ProGold connector enhancer.
If cleaning the connector doesn’t help, most likely there is a problem with the keyboard controller on the system board. If that’s the case, you’ll have to replace the system board.
