A large business network needs a server, the traditional network data storage, even a small business requires a server for data storage. Considering the price of a server is costly and its complex installation needed a server expert to install. To maintain a server, special skill is needed so most business network hires a technician to maintain it. The server functions are more than just data storage. It can manage printers and running applications which slowing down the file access.

Presently, Network Attached Storage (NAS) is discovered by many businesses, because its price is much cheaper than server, no need special skill to install and use it, takes less work space, and has a pretty fast performance. The speciality of this machine is only managing the data that is supported by high quality specifications to make access files between many computers in a business network faster.

In 1983, Novell introduced Network Attached Storage as a file sharing storage and in 1984, Network file System UNIX was invented by Sun Microsystems for share data storage in the same network. Its system can be connected to computer network through Wi Fi, Fiber, Ethernet, iSCSI, and the newest is USB 2.0.

Network Attached Storage is a type of hard drive which contained large network data storage with Terabytes capacity. To install it, simply connecting a network cable and turning the device on. For additional information, a NAS machine is much cheaper than a server with the same capacity because server has a better processor and video cards which are recommended for a large business network.

For data center space efficient use, high density storage is provided by Network Attached Storage. Its features like data replication and RAID increases the reliability and speed of Network Attached Storage system. Each evolution of small business and the growing of data storage needs can be supported by its flexible capacity which reaches 8 TB (Seagate BlackArmor NAS 440). Another advantage using NAS is fast transfer and access data via Local Area Network (LAN).

NAS hard drive is not only recommended for a small business, but it is also an inexpensive storage solution for home network with built-in file management, save a lot of money than buying some external hard drives for data storage. Having a NAS hard drive can minimize your headache about replacing or adding additional hard drive, considering data storage needs are increasing dramatically and most home users do not have technical skills.
