Free Spyware

Spyware, Hijackers, Adware, Dialers, or Keyloggers: Get free protection from all of them!

Have you ever had the experience of finding programs installed in your computer without your knowledge?

What about being annoyed by numerous popup advertisements?

How about your start page or home page changing all the time?

What about your search results suddenly changing or your computer dialing out?

Chances are you have been a victim of spyware, hijackers, adware, dialers, or keyloggers.

Terms Defined

Let’s take a look at some of these computer menaces.

• Spyware – This is an infectious program installed surreptitiously in the computer system and supplies the software writer or the website which installed it confidential information about the user, may it be the websites you often visit, your activities in the computer, or even your password and credit card number. It can get into your computer in the form of a software virus or as a consequence of installing a program.

• Hijackers – Sometimes called hijackware, this program changes your computer’s browser settings in such a way that you are brought to web sites that you had no intention of looking into in the first place. These hijackers are often start pages and search pages to customers who pay for the service because of the traffic generated by them. This malware may slow your computer and cause your browser to crash.

• Adware – This is a program designed to display advertisements on your personal computer. And we are not talking about your normal advertisement every time you visit a website. Adware uses popup ad windows or even voice messages that are not by any means connected to the websites that you often visit.

• Dialers - These are programs installed into your computer system, which may rake you thousands of dollars in phone bill. A web dialer can be installed like a virus, Trojan, or any other malicious code into your computer system through e-mail attachments or downloaded software. Once installed, it will dial charge lines even when the user is not viewing a pay-per-view web site. Charges may range from a few pennies to dollars per minute.

• Keyloggers - Also known as keystroke loggers, keyloggers record your keystrokes in the computer (more sophisticated types may even capture screen shots) and will log or report them to the individual who installed them. Some companies use the commercial type to monitor employee resource use or monitor corporate spies. Law enforcement agencies may also use keyloggers to collect evidence against suspected criminals. However, some may use these keystroke loggers to spy on their co-workers and bosses.

Protection

Where do we get protection from these computer security threats?

What should we look for a free spyware and what-have-you removal system?

There are a few things that we can take into consideration before we download a free spyware remover from the Internet:

1. A good spyware remover should provide effective protection against the software infections mentioned above (since they are the main software infections that give away confidential details about the user and decreases the efficiency of your computer), as well as all other malicious software invented by man if possible.

2. Your free spyware remover should come with cleaners so that you’ll be able to detect spyware online. Free spyware cleaner programs also remove spyware programs that are running currently in your computer.

After installing your free spyware remover, download the current anti-virus definitions available in the Internet. You may use two or more to guarantee that all malware threats are discovered and removed quickly. Also, you may want to have a full system scan every week. Make sure that your security program and anti-virus are always enabled to scan all e-mails, may they be incoming or outgoing.

What are you waiting for? Clear your computer now of malicious software and programs.

7 Simple Reasons Why You Need A Network Security Camera For Your Home

by Dexter on Jun.24, 2009, under IT News

Pros

1. Easy to install: Most of the network cameras on the market are plug and play and/or have very simple to follow instructions for both the hardware and software end.
2. Comparatively cheaper than other security systems: Instead of paying a highly trained technician to install a complex CCTV system, and pay him on an ongoing maintenance arrangement- you can have a network camera security system that can stand on it’s own against CCTV and traditional security systems.
3. Works with your existing computer network: If you already have a home network, then the network camera works with your settings, so you don’t need to pay more for the proper security infrastructure.
4. Provides peace of mind: watch your home, watch your childs room, watch your vacation home, watch your pets while you are on vacation, etc
5. See remote areas: as far away as across the globe, or your own front porch from a centralized area. Can even remotely view your children at the nursery (depending on the nurseries policies though this is becoming more standard)
6. Flexibility: Prefer not to be tethered to the security control panel or hire a full time security professional to monitor things, then get security alerts which you can view from cell phone, laptop, or PDA device, and provide multiple users access to the various security assets.
7. Receive alerts via email when detects motion, either when someone visits your home, or when your children leave home to hang out.

Cons

1. May have poor image quality depending on model and configuration, and wireless cameras in general have poorer image quality on the lower to mid range.
2. For more bells and whistles, like sound recording, scheduled emails, and motion capture, it varies greatly from model and software description.
3. Generally, outdoor surveillance equipment is more costly, especially if you want the ability to remotely pan/tilt, zoom in, zoom out, and want a waterproof camera. However for a home system this is probably not as urgent as opposed to for a business situation.
4. Drains computer network resources, so if you don’t have a speedy computer, then there’s a chance of a slight slow down in your collective resources.

Remember that despite the cons, the benefits outweigh them as they provide great security results at a lower installation and maintenance cost than traditional Closed Circuit Television systems.

Free Spyware Removers: To Install or not to Install

The internet today is filled with a lot of free downloads. These downloads can range from free wallpapers to free spyware removers. Since people today generally believe that anything free should be taken advantage of, websites offering all sorts of free stuff are enjoying immense popularity among web surfers. But the question still remains: should you or should you not avail of free spyware removers?

Well, if you are facing this decision, you definitely need a lot of help. How do you decide? What factors should you consider in making your decision?

The pros:

Downloading free spyware removers in the internet can have a lot of advantages. These advantages are what people see when they make a decision to avail of free spyware removers.

1) Low cost – the main advantage of free spyware removers is the fact that they are free. Of course, there are other costs, such as signing up for an advertising list. However, most people would willingly go through such processes than pay cash for any type of spyware remover. This just shows us how much humanity values money today.

2) Accessibility – Some people in the world have absolutely no idea what spyware is, much less how to get rid of spyware from their systems. That is, until they are approached with offers of free spyware removers. Most people avail of free spyware removers because it is the most available to them. Believe it or not, some people would prefer not to use their credit cards online. This means that they only have access to free stuff on the internet.

3) Speed – free spyware removers are often much quicker and easier to use than the software that people need to pay for. This is because free spyware removers are often designed for quick download over the internet.

Manufacturers of free spyware removers design them to be quick downloads mainly to attract more customers to them. You see, time is still the one convenience that we all covet. As long as a person is able to save time by downloading free spyware remover off the internet, he would prefer to choose that method of acquiring anti-spyware tools.

4) Convenience – often, free spyware removers are packaged with various other tools such as messengers and toolbars. This means that a person who wants to avail of free spyware removers are given the chance to do so and so much more.

The cons:

1) Substandard quality – of course, free spyware removers can’t really compare in quality to commercial spyware removers. Often, free spyware removers have very few of the features that their commercial counterparts are known for.

2) Unsecure source- some downloadbale free spyware removers do not come from legitimate sources. There are even cases of spyware creators disguising spyware as free spyware removers in order to get people to download them. Because of this, people who want to download free spyware removers often end up infecting their own systems.

3) Inevitable payment – of course, there are many companies out there who release free spyware removers only in order to attract customers to their products. Sooner or later, customers who download free spyware removers have to pay some cash for the product that they downloaded. This payment may be for an upgrade to a better version. It may be a payment for continued service. Some companies also require payments so that your spyware remover will be updated.

Free Spyware Download: The Bare Computer Necessity

Experiencing computer problems that you cannot seem to fathom? Who you are you going to call? Or better yet, what is the best thing to do? The answer? Free spyware downloads.

In these days of hackers and viruses, the only defense you can ever have are spyware removers. It does not matter if you have the best and the most expensive computer. All your important files and data can be exposed to risk in a matter of seconds. All that is needed is for the spyware to get an access into them.

There are other grave issues that have been associated with spyware. Consider yourself lucky if you have become a victim of one that only targeted files and database. Some of the more unfortunate individuals had been victims of identity thefts because of spyware.

Just imagine what it feels like being credited for something that you are not even aware of. There are even cases wherein their accounts have been wiped out without them knowing about it. Only to be discovered later on when they are charged or upon purchase using these cards.

These are just some of the examples of what spyware can do to your computer and to you. If you do not want to fall prey into and become a part of the victims, then you should consider spyware removal.

How do you choose one?

The first thin that you need to do is choose from among the many free spyware downloads available. The easiest way to get them is online. A lot of sites are offering these programs with different varieties.

Before you decide on one, it is best to check out some of the offers that you think is best. Compare their features and capabilities. In addition, take into mind the kind of need that you have. Is it just simple spyware? Or is it something that needs more advanced methods of removal? Whatever requirement it is that you have, there is always one or two out there that will serve your purpose well.

What spyware removal is available online?

When you search on the internet, you will be given choices of spyware downloads that you can get for free. Most of these are offered as free trials and for computer users to have an initial taste of what their programs can do.

Majority of these free spyware downloads can be upgraded so that you will have you very own spyware removal software. For a minimal fee, you will get to enjoy the benefits that the software can do for your computer.

You can have as many spyware programs as you want if you feel that one is not enough. The initial cost that you have to pay will be worth it once you see that you are well protected from any further harm that your computer may encounter.

The thing to remember is that you get the free spyware download from a reputable and trusted site. There are fake spyware removals out there also. You probably would not want to gain more problems when you want them solved in the first place.

Ask those who have availed of free spyware downloads. They will be the ones who can point you in the right direction of which spyware to get. Take the time to look and ask around before you decide on one.

7 Tips For Buying Cheap Laptop

by Dexter on Jun.23, 2009, under IT News

Laptops are gaining in popularity these days. Almost everyone is carrying one now either for work or entertainment. Laptops with the latest technology are introduced to the market everyday and these new laptops come with a huge price tag. However, that does not mean you cannot get a good and cheap laptop. I have put together a guide that may help you out in your hunt for a cheap and good laptop.

Buy cheap laptop with older technology

Rapid advance in technology makes it meaningless to buy the latest technology at a high price. When laptop with wireless capability first came to the market, a unit with this technology can cost up till US$2500. NOw after 2 years, you can get a relatively fast centrino laptop for less than US$1000

Buy used or refurbished laptop
The depreciation of a laptop value is so high, that after one year in the market, a laptop can easily lose half its value. So if you are looking for a cheap laptop, look for one which is close to one year old. Not all used laptop are in bad condition. You will be surprised to find that some used laptops are still in good condition because their owners are power users or gamers.

Buy laptop from power users or gamers
I like to buy electronic gadgets including laptops from hard core power users or gamers. Let me share with you why. Gamers or power users usually require the latest and most powerful technology to run their games or power hungry applications. They often will not settle for second best. They also have the tendency to chase after the latest technology. So after one year, they will be bored of what they have and will look to sell off their laptops so that they can buy a new one. Now if you are looking to buy cheap laptops with up to date technology and you happen to have friends who are gamers, do ask them if they are looking to sell off their laptops. Who knows, maybe you can buy a good and cheap laptop from them.

Scan through gaming forums and local gaming community
if you do not already have friends who like to play computer games, then scanning through gaming forums on the internet is another way to get good and cheap deals for used laptop. Internet makes it easy for you to do this. Go to google.com and start searching for gaming forums. Visit each and everyone and see if they have a Trading Section. You will definitely find many post from gamers looking to sell their gaming laptops.

Scan through local bulletin boards
Do scan through local bulletin boards near you for cheap deals on laptop.Especially if there are software companies around the area. Software companies do offer their used computers or laptops for sale when their software projects end. I personally had gotten a few good deals for my family and friends.

Look for cheap laptop with at least 512mb memory
This is especially important for used laptop. If the processor speed is slow, then having more memory can compensate for the lack in speed. In fact, The size of memory plays a big part in determining how fast a laptop runs an application. Just by increasing the memory size, you can see a huge difference in speed. A cheap laptop with at least 512mb memory can run most non graphic intensive application easily.

Get cheap laptop from reputable manufacturer
This is very important because if you are buying used laptop, then the chances of requiring servicing is higher than a new laptop. So if you buy from a reputable manufacturer, you will save alot of trouble and time if your laptop do require servicing.

Apple IWork 2008 Review

by Dexter on Jun.23, 2009, under IT News

The $79 iWork ‘08 appears to be a good deal for anyone needing an affordable office suite for the Mac. Apple has finally added a spreadsheet application. At first glance, Numbers is an elegant no-brainer for anyone migrating from Microsoft Excel. In the past, many Mac aficionados bought Microsoft Excel because iWork lacked a spreadsheet application. However, with the addition of Numbers and the release of Microsoft’s Office for Mac 2008 delayed until January, Mac users may stick to Apple’s less expensive option. We’re also happy that Mac hasn’t changed its file formats as Microsoft did with Office 2007.

We like the sparse interfaces throughout the iWork package. Its features aren’t as deep or rich as in Microsoft Office 2007, but iWork also hasn’t changed radically from its last incarnation, unlike Office. iWork also covers much more than just the basic productivity tasks offered by online tools like Google Docs & Spreadsheets or the Zoho suite, so it should be adequate for the vast majority of home and small-business users.

System requirements, thankfully, are gentle to users of older Macs. You’ll need an Intel, PowerPC G5 or G4 machine with a 500MHz or better processor in addition to 512MB of RAM minimum, running OS X10.4.10.

Pages

Apple tore a page out of Microsoft Office’s book by creating a Contextual Format Bar that displays different features according to your task at hand. Select text, and the bar shows font options. Click on a picture, and the bar displays image-editing features. Unlike the contextual formatting Ribbon interface within Microsoft Word 2007, however, Pages offers no live previews of font and image changes as you hover over them.

Pages ‘08 also adds Change Tracking, similar to the Track Changes feature adopted many years ago by Microsoft Word. We’re glad that Pages gets this treatment for displaying document revisions rather than the often confusing revision and commenting history offered by the online Google Docs.

Pages includes the usual must-have features for writers such as footnotes, bookmarks, and tables of content, in addition to integration with charts and functions from the new Numbers app. In addition, Pages now detects when you type a list and formats bulleted points automatically. We just hope that this won’t drive us batty (as it does sometimes in Microsoft Word).

There are plenty of page templates for letters, resumes, reports, and the like to get started if a blank slate poses too much pressure. Page Layout mode lets you create relatively complex designs without software such as Adobe InDesign, great if you’re throwing together reports for work. It lets you layer images on top of images too. The Instant Alpha feature, also found in Keynote, lets you cut out backgrounds in images without dealing with alpha channels, a la Photoshop. And we prefer Pages’ color wheel, crayons, and spectrum to Word’s color options.

Keynote

Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 may be richer, but Apple Keynote ‘08 adds some smart features that PowerPoint lacks. It’s also a breeze to figure out from the get-go. Action Builds let you create basic point-A-to-B motion animation, without needing to deal with motion tweens as in complex apps such as Adobe Flash. Smart Builds enable animation, such as rotating photographs, using images you can grab from the iLife media browser. And new voiceover recordings enable you, say, to narrate podcasts with pictures. There are new between-slide transitions and slide show themes too.

Numbers

Our early look at the new Numbers reveals ease of use novelties that competitive tools don’t provide. Microsoft Excel 2007 still appears to be more robust, particularly for number crunchers such as scientists, accountants, or engineers. Yet the majority of users who rely upon spreadsheets as one-size-fits-all tools for household and light office work should be pleased to have a new option for Macs.

Numbers comes with plenty of templates, including travel planners, business expenses, and school science lab reports. Of course, it can also save and export Excel-readable files. This application pleases the eye and can make attractive spreadsheets. We dragged around text boxes, images, and tables using alignment guides without a hitch. You can add 3D bar, pie, and other charts and even integrate maps into a spreadsheet.

The controls for working with tables were extremely user-friendly in our early tests. Slider bars allow you to adjust the numeric values within cells, handy if you’re looking to add a range of values. Resizing columns and rows appears to be less of a hassle than with Excel. You can drag data from a file of contacts or into a Numbers table that will automatically partition information into the appropriate columns. And sorting a table smartly leaves the headers alone. Formulas appear to be the same as those in Microsoft Excel, but Numbers also has easy-to-find natural language shortcuts for common calculations, such as sums and averages.

The Interactive Print View offers more controls than in Microsoft Excel, which easily leads to unwieldy spreadsheet printouts. Numbers shows where a stray column might take up an unnecessary extra page. You can eliminate the overlap with a slider bar that instantly scales the tables, charts, and images on a page.

If you would like to purchase iWorks 08, you can visit Electronics Store, or go directly to iWorks 08 or browse our Electronics Directory.

Netbooks, A New Variety Of Laptop You Need To Try

by Dexter on Jun.23, 2009, under Uncategorized

netbooks are small type of laptops that are purposed for wireless communication and accessing Internet. It’s cost is about $250, making Netbooks a potentially disruptive and high volume market niche. Even Netbooks will not be confused with regular laptops, but lots of people around the globe will be attracted to a low-cost computer machine. Netbook will become the global PC market in a short time.

Netbooks have become very crucial to the survival of personal computer vendors. They are one of the few industry area that still growing. By now, netbooks have been a hit with consumers. Research firm Gartner forecast sales of 5.3 million last year, compared with actual sales of 14 million computers. But because netbooks are cheaper than full featured laptops, manufacturers create less money from selling them.

Netbooks break all the laws of the computer hardware business. Commonly, development trickles down from the high end to the mass market. PC makers target early adopters with new, ultrapowerful features. Years later, those innovations spread to lower-end models.

With a huge list of Netbook models, Notebook specs seem to be standard as:

* Screen resolution 1024×600
* Intel Atom CPU running at 1.6-GHz
* Wi-Fi B and G
* Integrated graphics
* A slot for a flash RAM memory card
* External VGA output jack
* Ethernet at 100Mbps
* Two or three USB ports
* Headphone and microphone jacks
* Built-in camera

Netbooks can run with Windows XP Home edition or Linux (Linux on Netbooks are not the mainstream this time). Netbooks don’t run XP Professional, Vista, or Apple OS X. Microsoft arbitrarily restricts Netbooks from running the Windows XP Professional Edition and Apple arbitrarily restricts OS X to Apple hardware. Vista requires too much resource to run well on a Netbook. Now, HP has been the only company to offer Vista to run on Netbook. The price, however, was so high that it’s become debatable whether such a machine qualifies as a true Netbook.

Over 90% of netbooks are estimated to ship with Windows XP as of January 2009. Each is a full-featured notebook with displays in the 7- to 10-inch range. Almost all offer several USB ports, LED backlit screens, webcam, built in speakers, Wi-Fi and more. But the many choices in this nascent netbook market can overwhelm. These points below are lists of basic information to help you decide which one might work best for you.

Some points to have a look is:
*Touchpad. Touchpad with 2-buttons below, or Touchpad with buttons on each side. That may make it hard with some operations requiring simultaneous presses.
* Battery operating time and capacity.
* Size and Weight. The original idea was below 1 kg but some manufacturers lean towards up to 2 kg (4.4 lb).
* Noise from CPU fan.
* Availability of driver for the builtin hardware.
* Operating system they use. You may want to avoid the need for security updates in the field (ie use BSD/Linux). And keep CPU + memory requirements at a minimum.
* Presence of builtin HSDPA etc.. this feature may help you to avoid usb-dongles.

Malware

by Dexter on Jun.23, 2009, under Uncategorized

Malware

What is Malware?

The term “malware” is an amalgamation of the words “malicious” and “software”. When it comes down to it, the term “malware” actually gets its definition from the intent of the creator and not from the function of the software itself. This is because a piece of software cannot be termed “malicious” unless it is used for malicious purposes. As we all know, the purpose of a tool such as software depends on the creator.

Here are some types of malware that you should be aware of:

1) Infectious – This type of malware is composed mainly of computer viruses and worms. These are the most commonly known types of malware. In fact, the word “virus” today is more often used today to indicate a computer virus than an actual physiological virus. Viruses differ from worms in their operation and distribution.

A “virus” used to be spread via the use of floppy disks. A virus would copy itself into an executable file and would be run whenever a certain program is activated or a certain disk is opened.

The concept of a computer worm was introduced when the internet was first used to infect systems with malware. This type of malware would scan different networks for any vulnerable systems and then copy itself to those systems. From its new base, the worm would then begin a new process of scanning and copying.

Although these two terms used to have very distinct meanings and uses, they are now actually used interchangeably to indicate any type of infectious malware.

2) Concealers – generally, this type of malware is used to hide any type of activity within a user’s system. There are various types of concealers, such as:

a) Trojan Horses – serving the same purpose as its mythical counterpart, today’s Trojan horse may have different appearances. Some Trojan horses take the form of utilities. His appearance encourages a person to make use of them and make improvements on their system. When the unwitting user downloads the program, this then opens a door for other types of software and malware to be introduced into an end-user’s system.

Trojan horses are often used by creators of viruses in order to cause a massive computer virus outbreak. By introducing a virus into one network via a Trojan horse, the creator ensures the spread of that virus to other networks.

b) Backdoors – this type of malware creates an alternative pathway or route inside your system. It is used by hackers to create an alternative pathway into a computer. This helps them avoid any sort of security systems that people nowadays place inside their computers. Once inside a system, the hackers will then be able to do anything they want.

3) Profit malware – some forms of malware are created by companies who wish to increase their profits. This type of malware often comes in the form of a dialer. A dialer is a type of malware which messes with your internet connection. Dialers reroute your net connection through an expensive phone line thus, increasing the bills that you have to pay. An unwitting person who has his or her system infected with this type of spyware is forced to pay a huge amount of cash for a service that he or she definitely does not need. Being infected with this type of malware is just like flushing your wallet down the toilet.

Select The Best Gaming PC For Your Wants

by Dexter on Jun.21, 2009, under IT News

Choose the Best Gaming PC for your Needs

Computer game technology is a rapidly-increasing field. As the complexity of individual games increases, however, it becomes important to select a computer gaming system that will best fit your particular needs. Unhappily, there is no shortage of gaming PCs available on the market. How, then, do you select the best gaming system? By answering several questions about your gaming and financial needs, you can determine which direction to turn in terms of a proper gaming system.

What Kinds of Games do you Play?

Strategy and simulation games, for example, tend to be less graphically-intensive than other types of games and thus can be run on a less powerful gaming system. -1.8GHz Intel or AMD processor

-512MB RAM

-128MB video card
Compared to countless of the newer gaming computers on the market today, the demands for running Civilization IV are not all that high. As with many strategy and simulation games, a greater load is placed on AI and game calculations rather than graphics, and raw hardware power becomes less weightly to run the title effectively.
-3.0 Pentium 4 or equivalent processor

-1GB RAM

-256MB video card
As you can see, the types of computer games that you play invariably affect the hardware that you should purchase.
In the case of F.E.A.R., many players reported shortly after its release that the frame rate would often drop down to unplayable levels mid-game, chugging along even on powerful gaming systems. Everybody aspires to one day own an ultimate gaming computer; the specifications are mind-boggling, and there is no shortage of companies offering monster gaming rigs. When you design a system around these top-level components—a system that can take the latest game releases, chew them up, and spit them out—you can expect the cost of it to soar. If you don’t play many graphically-intensive games, or if you are willing to live with slightly degraded in-game graphics, it is simply not necessary to spend that kind of money on a gaming system.

The Advantages of Building your own Gaming PC

As has already been established, custom gaming computer systems can offer wonderful performance numbers and sleek styling, but they can often be cost-prohibitive. One of the key advantages to building your own gaming system is the cost efficiency of it. If you know where to shop for your components, you stand to spend a great deal less money assembling your system than you would for a comparably-powered, pre-made computer gaming system. Furthermore, the statement above is true: creating your own gaming system allows you to closely monitor the quality of individual components. It is possible and recommended to create a system using only the highest-quality parts by purchasing each piece separately and assembling the gaming rig yourself.
Is gaming going to be chief among those activities? Once you have determined the type of processor you will use in your gaming system, the next step is to select an adequate motherboard. How much system memory to you plan on running? If you plan on using your new computer system primarily for gaming, it is recommended that you purchase and run at least 1GB of RAM. For higher-end gaming, or if you plan on running most games at their highest possible graphical level, you will probably want to upgrade to 2GB or RAM. By running multiple graphics cards together, you stand to dramatically increase your gaming system’s 3D-processing capabilities, greatly boosting the gaming potential of your new computer.
Research, Research, Research!
If all else fails, turn to a computer professional to handle the actual assembly of your new gaming system.
