Shopping Cheap Computers Of Your Choice

by Dexter on Apr.28, 2009, under Uncategorized

So what type of computer are you using? I have chosen to go with a Mac Ibook G4. This little baby does darn near everything I want it to and then some. It’s amazing the way they make them so small and they weigh less than five pounds, by comparison or horseshoe only weighs 3 pounds. Technology is absolutely amazing these days, and it’s improving at an incredible pace. You can literally purchase a notebook computer that’s a mere half inch thick, but yet still packs a boatload of gigabytes.

It really blows my mind. As you know by now, folks all over the world enjoy the benefits of computers from the privacy of their very own homes. In fact, if you still don’t have a PC or Mac, then it’s pretty safe to say that you are behind the times. Well folks, now days you don’t have to concern yourself with massive computer costs. There is a plethora of cheap computers to choose from. There is definitely one for you.

When it comes to the computers we have in our homes, many of us would be lost without them. The conveniences that come from Internet access are innumerable. The World-Wide-Web gives us the freedom to do our taxes without paper, manage our bank accounts from home, and by groceries and even have them delivered to our door. Wow, now that’s progress. What really makes a great is the fact that computers are so very, very affordable now. You can pick up a cheaper model and still get all the necessary things at you and agent in a computer. I can remember just back in 98 when I purchased a massive Gateway desktop computer, and paid like 1600 bucks for it. It sounds funny now. These days we would all laugh at such a price tag on such a mediocre PC.

There wasn’t anything special about it at all. A 15 inch monitor, tower, keyboard, mouse, and 13 gigs aren’t saying much. Hell, I only paid a grand for my Apple notebook that has tons more features and 60 gigabytes of memory. Boy, how things have evolved. Thank God for cheap computers! So, if you are among the uninitiated to home computers, then I my advice is to hit the Internet. Although the giant megastores like Best Buy and Circuit City are wonderful for browsing, I still maintain that the finest deals are found in cyberspace.

Now, I realize that you may not have a computer in order to browse for cheap computers, but surely one of your friends or relatives will. This is Google.com to search and compare the various PCs. Dell is one of the finer companies that offer specials on package deals. You can actually custom make yours right through their web site. You can get the entire setup for as little as 300 bucks. Now that’s a lot better than 1600. No question about it, the Internet is loaded with cheap computers.

Splitting Panes In Excel 2007

by Dexter on Apr.27, 2009, under IT News

The Split command is found in the View Tab of the Excel Ribbon. It allows you to split an Excel spreadsheet window into either two or four separate panes and is particularly useful for comparing data in different parts of a large worksheet.

To use the Split command, first activate the cell where you want the split to occur then click on the split button. The horizontal and vertical bars marking the split can be repositioned simply by dragging. Separate scrollbars are also available for each section; so, in the case of a vertical and horizontal split, you end up with two horizontal scrollbars and two vertical scrollbars. To remove the split, simply click on the split button once more.

A second and more intuitive way of using the split command is to use the split boxes. These are located above the vertical scroll bar and to the right of the horizontal scroll bar. Let’s say, for example, that we have a spreadsheet containing rows of sales figures. Suppose we want to be able to compare the sales figures of one particular person with the sales figures of other individuals. We can create two vertical windows by dragging the vertical split box. We can then scroll to make the first person’s sales figures visible and in the top pane and then do the same to position the sales figures of any other sales person in the bottom pane.

Excel offers us a really simple way of removing the split. Simply double-click on the split line.

Similarly let’s now say we want to focus on the total for each individual and that the totals are shown in column J. We can create both a vertical and horizontal split by dragging each of the two split boxes. We can then leave the salesperson’s name displayed in the left pane while in the pane on the right we can scroll across to make the total visible.

As we scroll up and down, we now see the totals for each sales person next to the sales person’s name. If we would also like the heading to remain in place, we simply make the top pane one row deep, displaying only the headings while we scroll the bottom pane up and down.

When we finish working with our totals, we can remove the vertical split and leave the horizontal split in place. To do this, we simply double-click on the vertical split line. To return to a normal window we would also double-click on the horizontal split line.

How To Re-calibrate To Re-calibrate Laptopbattery

by Dexter on Apr.27, 2009, under IT News

In the last article we know how to calibrate laptop battery. Now let me introduce some tips about re-calibrate laptop battery.

It is difficult to predict how long a laptop battery charge will last because each computer user has different habits and needs. The rate at which you use laptop battery power will determine how long you can use the battery of your laptop. You can re-calibrate your laptop battery if the battery’s life has gotten shorter over time. Your laptop battery might need a good calibration if it doesn’t seem to be getting the mileage that it should. How to re-calibrate laptop battery? The following paragraphs will give you the answer.

First put the laptop computer to sleep by turning off the screensaver and other power management settings of the computer. Then fully charge the computer and allow it to run all the way down until the computer shuts off automatically. Once the laptop battery has fully drained, charge it back up again and restore the screensaver and power management settings.

Re-calibrate your battery every month or so by fully charging, fully discharging, and then fully charging again. Basically to have a chance to re-calibrate your laptop battery is to turn off all power-saving features completely and then fully recharge them. If it doesn’t work for the first time then try two more full discharges and recharges.

The above way of re-calibrating the laptop batteries works well with laptops using Ni-MH cells. But not with laptops using Li-Ion batteries because deep discharges will actually decrease the charge capacity and lifespan of Li-Ion cells. Moreover Li-ion batteries irreversibly lose approximately 20% capacity per year from the time of manufacture at a typical 100% charge level at 25deg.C, even when unused. Li-ion batteries irreversibly lose approximately 2%, 4%, 15% at 0deg.C, 25deg.C and 40deg.C respectively, when stored at 40% charge level. That is every deep discharge cycle decreases the capacity of the Li-ion batteries. As the Li-Ion batteries are chemical in nature, charging and recharging is not going to fix the problem once the chemical reactions stop happening. Therefore the best advice for re-calibrating the Li-Ion batteries is to store the battery at 40% charge if it kept unused for any unlimited period of time. Also don’t leave the battery in the laptop if you don’t use the battery or if you plug the laptop into outlet power.

You can also re-calibrate your laptop battery using Thinkpad T61 Battery Maximizer in order to maximize your laptop battery’s life. If your laptop has IBM ThinkPad Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management features installed, you can verify the condition of the laptop battery. You can check the status of your battery using the Battery MaxiMiser Gauge in the taskbar tray. The ThinkPad’s Lithium Ion battery pack that seems to be an intelligent battery uses a microprocessor to monitor its capacity. Then the microprocessor of the battery pack passes the information about the remaining battery capacity to the laptop. The laptop indicates the capacity with high accuracy.

Using the Dell inspiron 6400 Battery Learning Utility, a modified version of a Win98 boot floppy, can also help you. Just place it in the floppy drive, and then turn on the computer. The re-calibration process is automated and takes about six hours to finish. This utility is available in different versions for different models. You can run the utility every two months.

If the laptop battery is still bad then it must have developed a memory that cannot be erased easily. If calibration doesn’t help, then it is the right time to purchase another battery.

What’s Wrong? Is It Your Website Or Your Computer

by Dexter on Apr.24, 2009, under Uncategorized

After you have made some chances on your website you begin to see things that don’t make since. Your website seems to be playing tricks on you. For some reason certain banners stop showing up on your computer but still works when you check your site on someone elses pc. Is it a problem with your computer or your website?

The problem could be quite easy to resolve. It could be as simple as your banner site that you used has updated there banner codes and it may not be compatible with your computer configurations. Or you made an adjustment to the code by changing where the banner links to. If you copy and paste the code on your website you must not change anything on the code. For letting them use their server to house your banner the banner, for some sites, must link back to their site only. If not, your banner could get deleted from their files.

One of the best ways to avoid this problem is to download the banner and install it on your web hosting server. By doing this it will not matter what the banner website does. It will be yours and you can have it link to where ever you want it. If you are using a free site like blogger.com, for example, then you will have to create a new banner then use the codes and make no chances at all.

You might be able to check for any updates to your computer to see if that will resolve the problem. There might be a new version of a browser that you need to get. If there is and it is not in beta then update it and see if that resolves the issue. Plus, you can go to Java.com to see if their is a new version of java software you can download to see if this helps.

When is the last time you deleted your temporary files? It may be overloaded causing it to block the image. Just go into tools and select “delete browsing history” and when you are done close all browsers then open a new one to see if that helps.

If that doesn’t work then get a thorough scan of your computer to see if you have any spyware or adware that might be blocking it. If you have a paid service you downloaded and it doesn’t find anything then have your pc scanned by a trusted online service to see if it can find anything.

Maybe your computer is not what is wrong? It could be that when you made changes to your website you added a code of javascript that does not work together with your banner. I have experienced a situation where I used different display ads services that would block out each other. Once I removed one of the codes then the other worked just find. Not all javascript codes, or any codes for that matter, can be used on the same page. Just take a look at the last code you copied and pasted in or what you downloaded to server and remove it and see if the banner then returns.

These are the most common solutions for this type of issue. If all those do not solve the problem then simply try a different banner service. You should have no problem finding one.

Free Proxy Surfing - Essentials

by Dexter on Apr.24, 2009, under Uncategorized

Today more and more people use the Internet, because all we need to know is just a click away. The Internet is a very efficient and quick way of finding information about almost everything. However, there is also a bad side to the Internet and that is that you are exposed to hackers and your every step on the net can be monitored.

Because privacy, Internet crime, hacking were becoming more and more of an issue and many people were afraid to use the Internet because of the consequences, free proxy surfing sounded like a dream, something that had to be done. If software was designed to insure the privacy, the anonymity of the people using the Internet, then all of these problems would find their ending. With free proxy surfing, people did not have to worry anymore about somebody spying their every move or finding out their address or even their social security numbers.

Free proxy surfing is like a buffer between you and the web sites that you want to visit. It allows you to view as many information as you want on the Internet without the concern of being tracked. There are two ways that this can be accomplished: by using a program that can insure your anonymity or by using free proxy sites.

Free proxy surfing with the help of programs is a little more complicated and may not always work. On the other hand free proxy sites are very easy to use and can guarantee a very good result. Nowadays more and more people are using free proxy sites to surf the net. All one has to do in this cases is visit the free proxy site that assures your anonymity and enter the web site address, URL, of the page that you want to visit and remain anonymous at the same time.

How does this work? Well, when using a free proxy site to surf the net and remain anonymous at the same time, the proxy retrieves all the web sites before they are actually delivered to the person. This way, the other server will not see your IP address or other information, but it will see the anonymous proxy’ s adress.

However, there are also some bad news when talking about free proxy surfing. Although, using free proxy sites sounds like a dream, there are also some downs that you should know about. When free proxy surfing, your browsing speed will slow down a little bit. Another thing is that there are many ads on these free proxy sites, that may drive you a little crazy at times. Moreover, there is always the chance that the actual proxy server record your data and a malicious server can find out everything about your machine. This can be avoided if using a free proxy server that is highly rated and also has a very specific privacy policy.

So, besides three little inconvenience, the biggest of them being the browsing speed, free proxy surfing can get you out trouble and inure the anonymity and privacy that you are in titled.

How To Unblock Sites At School

by Dexter on Apr.23, 2009, under Uncategorized

How many times you have been at school or work and wanted to browse your favourite sites, but guess what, they were blocked! Happened a lot to me, or at least until I heard of web proxies. They are web sites that let you unblock sites by your administrator.

How is that possible?

Basically they retrieve the page you want to surf and display it for you.So, you connect to the web proxy, and it connects to the blocked site. It’s like a person in the middle.

For what are they used else?

Web proxies, besides unblocking unblock sites, p.s myspace unblock, they are used to protect your privacy. That means that you don’t show your IP to the sites you connect, but show the proxies IP.

How can I find them?

Just make a google search for terms like proxy or unblock sites and you will get thousands of working proxies. It’ just that easy ;) .

What if you don’t like proxies?

While proxy servers are extremely popular in helping to get past firewalls there are still other sneaky ways in which you can get on MySpace at school as well. For example, you could use Google to load the cached version of the site. This works because the cached version of the site is usually filter free. To do this you will need to go to Google first, type in MySpace and then go to the first link, but make sure you click on cached not the actual URL link.

Another way would be to try changing the prefix of the site name. For example, instead of typing in http://www.myspace.com you would type in “http://home.myspace.com” Of course, you can use other prefixes besides home, such as invite, search, mail, blog, favorites, groups, forum, events, music, signup, chat, etc. Just make sure you put the dot (.) before the rest of the URL.

You might also try using a language translator page in order to translate the site from another language into English. There are several sites that offer this type of service including Google Language Tools, FreeTranslation, and Babel Fish Translation.

If you are a bit more technically minded another method would be to install a circumventor. A circumventor program can be used to sneak past all kinds of web blocking programs. Be aware that you won’t actually be installing the program on the computer from which the firewall is blocking the site you want to see. Instead, the program is installed on a different machine, one that is not blocked. So, for example, you wouldn’t install the circumventor on the computer at school; it would be installed on a computer at home. After the circumventor program has been installed it will provide you with URL for the new circumventor, you take that with you and use that URL to sneak past the firewall or other type of web blocking device.

It is important to know that whatever computer you install the circumventor on must have a fast Internet connect, not dial-up. It should also be running either Windows XP or 2000. In addition, the computer must be turned on and hooked up to the Internet in order for the circumventor to work. Peacefire offers information where to download circumventor programs.

InDesign: Most Impressive New Features

by Dexter on Apr.21, 2009, under IT News

1. Enhanced interactive document features

Adobe have responded to the growing need for designers to create electronic documents by significantly enhancing the tools available for adding interactivity to InDesign files. The Hyperlinks panel now contains a URL field, enabling you to create a link by simply highlighting some text and entering the required URL.

Creating interactive buttons has been made easier than ever. Instead of a button tool, CS4 now has a Buttons panel which also includes button states. Having converted an element to a button, the Buttons panel allows you to add “rollover” and “click” states and assign actions.

Another welcome addition is the ability to add page transitions. Also, having added interactivity to a layout, you can now export to Flash (.swf) files as well as PDF.

2. Conditional text

The ability to produce slightly different versions of the same document is a fairly frequent requirement. It may be a case of having one brochure for distributors and another for end-users or producing different language versions of the same manual. Documents of this kind are ideal candidates for InDesign CS4’s new conditional text feature.

Conditions are created in a panel not unlike the layers panel. Initially all text within the document forms part of the default condition: namely, it is unconditional, meaning that, by default, all text will appear regardless of which conditions are active. You simply need to create a condition for each version of the document you wish to create: just choose “New Condition” from the Conditions panel menu. Next highlight the text you wish to associate with that condition and click on the name of the condition in the Conditions panel.

The conditional text feature can even be used with images and text frames, provided they are anchored objects. Once you have set up all the conditional elements, to produce a particular version of your document, you simply activate the appropriate condition in the Conditions panel. The document is then ready to be printed or converted to PDF.

3. Improved Links panel

InDesign’s Links panel keeps track of files imported into your document and indicates the current status of linked files: for example, showing you if a file has been modified or is missing. InDesign CS4 includes considerable enhancements to this useful utility. For a start, there is now a thumbnail next to each item listed in the Links panel and the page number shown next to each item is a clickable link which takes you straight to the image.

CS4 also introduces a feature called a “parent entry”. This refers to an image which has been imported several times within the document (a typical example would be a logo placed in a header or footer). Instead of creating a separate entry for each instance of the image, InDesign now offers a single entry with a show/hide arrow icon which, when clicked, shows you the detail of each image.

The Link Info window is also now integrated into the Links panel and is now much more interactive. You simply double-click an image to display it and it now contains buttons which allow you to move from image to image. Add to this the ability to customise which columns of information appear in both the Links panel and the Link Info panel and we have a really impressive tool for keeping track of imported images.

Understanding Proxy Sites

by Dexter on Apr.21, 2009, under IT News

Have you ever experienced not being able to access a particular website because it is blocked? Have you ever wondered if there is a way for you to access a website anonymously?

You may not know this but you are leaving trail after trail online when you open a website. Any hacker can practically follow your trail and know what sites you have visited. If you want to access a blocked site or if you want to visit websites anonymously, you should try using proxy sites.

What are Proxy Sites?

Proxy sites are basically web pages that you can use in order to browse or access your favorite website anonymously. You can also use these sites if a particular website you would like to visit is barred by a content filter. You can actually go around your Internet provider. You can browse various websites using these web pages.

There are numerous dependable proxy sites online. All you have to do is visit one of these sites and key in the URL address of the website that you would like to visit. Usually, you will see a form on the site’s webpage. You can then type the address and you can start browsing. You are well-protected. Your real IP address will not register. You can now enjoy anonymous browsing.

What is Anonymous Browsing?

It is basically browsing the Internet with your identity hidden. You can do this if you use an anonymous browser or proxy sites. These sites will bring you to the URL address that you would like to visit however your location or IP address will not register. The proxy site instead will talk to the particular address you are accessing. It will act as an emissary for you. The good thing about this is that your privacy will be maintained. You can avoid actual and probable users spying on you and your connections.

Risks Attached to Using Proxy Sites

Using these sites may seem to be the ultimate solution, but there are certain drawbacks to using them. They can be likely harmful because data is not encrypted when you use them. The data remains unprotected when it is sent to the servers; thus, your logins and passwords could be recorded or leaked. The truth is that there are malicious proxy sites online. You need to be careful when using these sites. You may fall prey to one of them and you could end up providing too much information. Your desire to browse anonymously could lead to huge disasters. You could end up having your accounts hacked. In fact, there are unscrupulous proxy websites that sell their user’s information to online felons. Just be sure to use a reputable proxy server.

Choosing Proxy Sites

You need to be careful when choosing a particular proxy website. A good and reliable site will offer an SSL tunnel or TLS tunnel. This will prevent online rogues from stealing your information. Aside from this feature, you may want to look for a proxy that supports the particular protocol that you prefer. There are proxy sites that only support FTP or HTTP.

If you want to bypass blocked websites or if you want to surf sites anonymously, you can always use proxy sites. Make sure, however, that you choose your proxy carefully. Otherwise, using these sites could end up a huge disaster for you.

If you need a proxy site why not try one of these.
